SoSoConfused: Ha! I so relate to that!! I also knew Carlos West as well. Went to hall for a minute and was in my circuit as well. LOVED to hear himself talk, which came out in the form of him trying to counsel you.

Anyone else an Ex Bethel "volunteer"
by BackseatDevil ini was wondering if there were any other ex-bethelites on here.
i personally regularly went for temporary work at brooklyn then was assigned to the farm for a year and a half.
it was... one of the most bizaare experiences of my life.. so i wrote it all down (finally, after some 15 years) so i won't bore anyone on here with the details of the story - because bethel doesn't show up until chapter 15... and for you straight folks, it gets a bit gay in two places... but nothing gross.

Bethel Layoffs: Know anyone (especially long-timers) who were laid off?

Bethel has been cutting down their staff for years, because the money has dried up (especially in the Americas). In recent years, many long timers (10, 15, 20+ year Bethelites), have been "re-assigned" to the "field," (which is code for lay-off). Many of the long-timers went to Bethel straight out of high school and never acquired skilled trades, career, etc and were sent back home, often times having to start all over again (in the workplace).
Sad, sad scenario for many. Some of landed on their feet, others not so well.

SoSoConfused: I knew Aurelius Ransom and his wife very well. Surprised that he is not at the house anymore. For awhile, he was putting out hints that he wanted to go into the circuit work eventually. Aurelius was OK (could sometimes be a little arrogant), but his brother in law Michael Watts, who was also there at the time, was so COOL. He left shortly after he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Watts is back in Michigan, and was getting around on crutches and a wheelchair for awhile, but he and his wife were truly nice people.
And ahh yes - I remember the haircut issues with black brothers well! After they jacked my haircut up, I would go on my lunch hour to a "secular" barber shop on Fulton Street (called Nappy Roots) to get my hair cut. Got lectured for it eventually, but even they knew my deep seated anger at having my haircut jacked up by Bethel.

"Theocratic Warfare" and the Annual Report
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inone of the things i certainly noticed as a jw, and even during the time i was in bethel, was the complexities of reporting "truth.".
beginning with an observation on a personal level, i consider myself an honest person.
but something happened along the way, beginning when i pioneered.

Why is God speaking in riddles?
by sosoconfused init seems for most of the bible that god spoke directly to people and told them what to do.
he wrote things on rocks.
he gave them laws.

Why JW's take on education is truly disingenuous
by Black Man inwe've all waxed poetic about the jw views on higher education and how they truly stifled people trying to pursue an education.
but what did they offer as an alternative??!!.
at least mormons (who's theology is as equally fucked up as jws) had an accredited school in brigham young university that their people could aspire to attend.

Rules & Regulation: I ESPECIALLY disliked those assembly parts where they would reinforce their bullshit with horribly applied simulated real life dramas that derided higher education. And the drones would just blindly clap to that bull shit. Incredible!
